ANDY HILL APPOINTED AS DEAN OF FILM SCORING ACADEMY OF EUROPE AT THE EUROPEAN ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS

Grammy Award-winning music supervisor and former Vice President of music production for Walt Disney Studios, Dr. Andy Hill, appointed as Dean of the Film Scoring Academy at the European Academy of Fine Arts by Irish American University.

DUBLIN, IRELAND (August 28, 2020) – Irish American University today announced the appointment of Dr. Andy Hill as Dean of the Film Scoring Academy of Europe at the European Academy of Fine Arts.

Hill is a thirty-year veteran of the film and television music industry and Grammy Award- winning music supervisor. He has served since its 2019 launch as Director of the Master of Fine Arts program in Music for Motion Pictures and Contemporary Media at the Film Scoring Academy of Europe, the charter program of the European Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria, a constituent college of the Irish American University.

Among his many accomplishments, he was Vice President of music production for Walt Disney Studios from 1987-1996, overseeing music production on a number of films including “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Sister Act.” As a Disney music executive, Hill oversaw music production on films earning ten Academy Awards in music categories.

In addition, Hill won the Best Musical Album for Children Grammy Award in 1999 as a producer for “The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.”

“I am deeply honored that the Irish American University and its European Academy of Fine Arts have seen fit to appoint me Dean of their charter post-graduate program in Sofia, the Film Scoring Academy of Europe,” says Hill. “From my earliest days in Hollywood, I have believed that global talent development is the single most important function of a creative executive, and from my first engagement as an educator, I’ve believed that arts academies should be the first-stage incubators of this talent. My hope is to create a back bench of musical talent for the international entertainment industries.”

Hill founded the MFA program in Music Composition for the Screen at Columbia College Chicago and is also the author of five published novels, the most recent of which, “Ministry,” will be published in 2021 by Touch Point Press. His original screenplay, “TESLA,” received top honors in the Northern Lights Screenplay Competition.

“The Film Scoring Academy will greatly benefit from Dr. Hill’s industry experience, success and connections,” says Joseph A. Rooney, President of Irish American University. “His knowledge and understanding in the area give the program a cutting-edge advantage. Graduates of the Academy will greatly benefit from their time spent with Andy. We are excited to have him takeover as Dean.”

Hill received his bachelor’s degree from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and his doctorate in film musicology from the University of South Wales.
