QQI, 3 Year Honours Degree

The three year honours degree in international business is accredited by QQI and is placed at level 8 on the National Qualifications Framework. The programme focuses on the international aspects of business, especially the challenges of operating in the dynamic global environment. This is achieved by combining a mix of theory, practice and work experience. Lectures are interactive environments where students are encouraged to exchange ideas and opinions. There is a strong emphasis on developing the student’s personal skills such as public speaking and debating. This is supported by the culturally diverse learning environment at American College Dublin with a student body drawn from over sixty countries. On completion of the third year students gain invaluable work experience by undertake an eight-week internship in a multinational firm.

American College Dublin students have a wide range of opportunities open to them when they complete their degree. Academically they can take an additional year of ten elective modules to attain a four-year BA in International Business degree under the institution’s Middle States accreditation. Graduates can enter the college’s Master of Business in International Business or the MBA in International Business or alternatively enter master’s, doctoral or professional studies in other institutions. Alternatively, if graduates wish to pursue a professional accountancy qualification, they will receive four exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Graduates from the BA (Hons) in International Business programme have been successful in such diverse areas as accountancy, advertising, banking, finance, human resource management, ICT, insurance, lecturing, public relations, and stockbroking, while some are running their own businesses. Graduates are furthering their careers with companies such as Abu Dhabi Investment Bank, Allianz Group, Arvato, Bank of Ireland, Canada Life, CIT Aerospace Int., Citigroup, Dell, Enterprise Ireland, Facebook, Google, International Data Corporation, JP Morgan, LogicaCMG, Mengniu Dairy Co., Ltd., Microsoft, Shanghai Huatai Securities Co. Ltd, Smurfit Kappa Group, and Ulster Bank. The Department of Business is very proud of the success graduates have achieved in the workplace and further studies.

Accelerated MBA – 4 years

Graduates from this course may proceed to our MBA course as part of the accelerated MBA programme. Acceptance into the graduate programme is based on perforamce in the undergraduate programme.

Entry requirements

American College Dublin has two intakes per year: in September and January.

There are two ways to apply to the College: through the CAO system or directly to the Admissions office. All of the College’s QQI programmes are available for application through the CAO system: BA (Hons) in Liberal Arts and BA (Hons) in International Business. A prospective student may submit an application for all other courses directly to the Admissions Office at American College Dublin.

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent).

Further education students

The College accepts students from further education colleges to all of its courses. Students must have gained three distinctions in a cognate area of the degree programme that they wish to study. Students must have a full level 5 or level 6 award and this award may have been taken over a number of years.

Mature student application

Mature applicants can apply through the CAO for the September intake or make a direct application for the College’s other intakes. Mature applicants must be 23 years of age on 1 January of the year that they wish to begin their course. Mature applicants must be interviewed by one of the admissions team. All applicants must submit a CV and a personal statement to the College.

Other EU applications

Every student who has taken examinations in an EU member state is expected to have completed mathematics and English in his or her final year. The only exception to this is students who have completed the A-Levels. These students must have taken mathematics and English for their O-Levels. Protection of Enrolled Learners

Each enrolled student on this programme has his or her fees insured in accordance with QQI regulations; this scheme is approved by QQI; each enrolled student is provided with a certificate of insurance detailing his or her cover.
